DAVID Wheater and Lewis Buxton will be among the players rested for tomorrow night’s EFL Cup game at Blackpool.

Phil Parkinson confirmed he would be making a handful of changes for the first-round tie at Bloomfield Road to ensure some of his more recent signings were not at risk of injury.

Derik Osede and Alex Finney could come into the equation for Wanderers, with Tom Walker and Kaiyne Woolery also pushing for a start.

“I have to say to the fans there will be changes on Tuesday,” he said. “We might have to lose Buxton and Wheater, players who I don’t want to put at risk because they are not up to speed yet.

“Of course, we’ll be doing everything we can to get through and win the game but I have to protect a few of them. It doesn’t make sense to gamble at this stage.”

Zach Clough remains out of action with a hamstring problem and Parkinson confirmed Max Clayton – virtually ever-present through pre-season – was taken out of the squad after medical advice on Saturday.

“Max’s knee was just a little swollen,” he said. “Hopefully he will be alright but Matt Barrass said he’d be better served missing this weekend.”
