ROSS McNair hopes to get one over on his former club Atherton LR in tonight’s Hospital Cup final.

The Tempest United boss spent several seasons as a player and manager at Crilly Park but will be looking to take maximum advantage at the Macron Stadium after finally beating the club’s semi-final jinx.

Victory over Elton Vale in the semi-final was the first time in five attempts Tempest had got to the grand stage of a cup competition.

And McNair, who suffered semi-final defeat as LR boss against Turton a couple of years ago but lifted the trophy as a player in 2009, is determined to make the most of the opportunity.

“It’s a chance for us to cap off a memorable season,” he said, with his side having secured a top six place in the West Lancs League.

“I’ve been with Tempest for getting on two years and had a successful time. I did at LR, to be honest, we were pushing for a play-off position just after Christmas.

“I had a good time as a player and as a captain and I remember that game against Turton hurt us and I’m sure Harty (Paul Hart) will never let us forget it.

“It’s lovely that this game is against my former club, I’ve got a lot of friends there and a lot of good memories.”

Shaun Lynch’s LR got into the final with a 2-0 win over local rivals Atherton Town “It’s a lovely occasion, you get treated like kings by the people at the Macron like Andy Whittle,” he added.

Entry on the night is £5, with free parking and free entry to any Under-16 accompanied by an adult.

All the proceeds will be donated to High Five, a small charity based in Chorley and is run by volunteer parents, providing activities for severely disabled children and their families. A spokesperson for High Five said: “We are really thrilled at being chosen as the charity partner for the Hospital Cup and are looking forward to visiting on match day.

“As a group we recognise the challenges that having a severely disabled child brings for all the family, and we support siblings as well as parents in having fun and meeting similar families in the local area.

“We run regular activities during term time and offer additional events during the holidays.”

High Five offers monthly private stay and play sessions at local soft play centres for the whole family where siblings can join in and parents can support one another. We also host many other events and activities suitable for all the family in a welcoming, understanding and tolerant environment.
