Hull 1 Wanderers 0

WANDERERS slipped to their second defeat in a row after being sunk by Kamel Ghilas’s 61st-minute winner at the KC Stadium.

The Algerian latched on to sub Jozy Altidore’s flick on and buried it past a helpless Jussi Jaaskelainen.

Gary Megson’s side produced a much-improved performance from their open-day defeat against Sunderland and were totally dominant for long periods.

But the visitors paid the price for two glaring misses by Johan Elmander and Kevin Davies at either end of the first half.

Hull took advantage of Bolton’s profligacy after the break and grabbed the game’s only goal just past the hour mark when Ghilas punished some lax defending.

New signings Altidore and Ghilas, who rattled the crossbar, both came close to wrapping up the Tigers’ first win of the season, though Wanderers felt they should have had a penalty when Gary Cahill was upended inside the area.

Sections of the travelling support turned on their manager before the final whistle as chants of ‘We want Megson out’ rang around the ground, but if the fans want anyone to blame for Wanderers’ latest setback then they should look no further than their strikers.
