DOUBTS have been cast over whether Wanderers’ Boxing Day game against Burnley will go ahead as planned.

Following Tuesday night’s postponement at Wigan, it is thought the same health and safety issues could force safety officers and police to call off Saturday’s match at Turf Moor, leaving the Whites three games behind most clubs around them in the Premier League table.

It is understood the undersoil heating at Burnley will ensure the pitch surface is playable, despite heavy snowfall in the last 24 hours.

But there are concerns over safety in the surrounding areas, including roads, pathways and car parks around the ground.

Clarets staff are believed to be working hard with the local council to make sure the sell-out game goes ahead, and there are encouraging signs that temperatures are likely to rise slightly towards the weekend.

A postponement would certainly come as a blow to Gary Megson’s side, who will hae been without a game for 10 days by the time they host Hull City on December 29.
