JANUARY 2014 TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY LIVE: Catch up with the latest Bolton Wanderers breaking news here

This live event has finished

11:42pm

Good night all - hope we have something to cheer about tomorrow.

Join me on Matchday Live from noon (ish)... depending on when I get out of bed.

11:41pm

Really enjoyed the banter from Monday up to Friday night - think it has been a success and it's certainly something I plan to do more of in the future!

2002me says

Thanks for the amazing blog
i hope ill see you in 6 months or not i may not be supporting us anymore *cries*

11:39pm

Right, well Dawson might be an argument, a discussion or a blog for another day.

As it happens I might have another pint.

11:38pm

Just read a tweet forwarded from Nicko about Uwe Rosler and a towel. Very good.

11:37pm

Says the lad who got all the action in his afternoon stint!

11:36pm

11:31pm

Birmingham Mail reporter Chris Lepkovski confirming that Dawson's move to Wigan did not make it over the line in time.

You still awake Marc? I know it's been a long day for you but before you nod off just give us some good news.....please?

How's about that???

11:28pm

Joy of joy - Dawson didn't make it in time!

11:12pm

No, I think his wages were covered but we get bonus if they stay up.

11:12pm

Thanks a lot. Seems like an age ago I was sat at my kitchen table with the whole day ahead of me...

11:11pm

If you think fans are unhappy at Wanderers tonight - try Leeds. Fans have blocked the exits at Elland Road so the club's new owners can't leave.

11:09pm

I will.

11:08pm

11:08pm Fri 31 Jan 14

2002me says

Do you reckon we'll get dawson?

I'd say it's pretty doubtful.

11:08pm

I love that...

11:07pm

11:03pm Fri 31 Jan 14

2002me says

when are you leaving chat?

I'll be around for a bit. Got a couple of texts out to see whether Dawson has gone through.

11:06pm

Thanks.

11:06pm

Clubs don't tend to nowadays.

11:06pm

11:05pm

All about paperwork on all the deals that may or may not have gone through now. Including Dawson.

11:02pm

I don't think it was that much, no.

10:59pm

Those bells are tolling...

10:57pm

Actually looking forward to seeing the numbers on this blog - hoping we hit the 100,000 mark for the full week.

10:55pm

10:53pm Fri 31 Jan 14

2002me says

Why dont we just pay half of Dawsons wages

Dawson will get experience
Dawson will be happy
half of his wages are off the books
and we get a great(and affordable) player

That might still be out of our price range - and it's up to West Brom how much they charge. Wigan could be willing to pay the full whack.

10:54pm

10:54pm

10:54pm

And that Marvin Sordell rumour seems to have died a death, doesn't it?

10:51pm

All joking aside - nine minutes left and the deal hasn't been announced. Tick tock.

10:50pm

10:44pm Fri 31 Jan 14

northumberlandbwfc says

marc do u think there is any chance of freedman playing 3 at the back in the coming weeks?

Lots of people have suggested that. Wheater back soon too.

Freedman has talked about playing three centre halves before but never quite carried it out.

10:45pm

Y'see there's the problem. Evil Premier League West Brom denying Dawson his dream move.

10:45pm

10:41pm Fri 31 Jan 14

bwfc54321 says

It would be really really nice if West Brom would pay Dawson's wages so he can come to the Reebok!!

10:44pm

Not with my bad shoulder.

10:43pm

I honestly don't know if that's an option.

10:41pm

Tom Ince has gone to Crystal Palace - so that's Blackpool royally screwed IMO

10:38pm

West Brom sign a centre-back from Espanyol, which means Dawson is almost guaranteed to be heading out.

10:36pm

Jack Hobbs has finally signed for Forest. He's been right round the houses in the last few weeks.

10:36pm

I'd assume one of the younger lads would have to step up.

10:31pm

10:29pm

I think it's also reasonable to assume that the amount of money saved on Davies going to Preston was not going to pay (all) of Dawson. It does, however, cover Trotter from what I hear.

It's the Ngog sale that comes as a bit of a surprise to me.

10:26pm

10:24pm

10:23pm

This has all got a thoroughly familiar ring about it... Ended last transfer window talking about deals that couldn't be done.

10:22pm

Danny Graham's loan to Middlesbrough has been confirmed...

10:21pm

10:20pm

Well the theory is that they will take the fine next season 'when' they get promotion.

10:17pm

Early deadline for the paper version of the BN means all this Dawson stuff won't be in the transfer deadline round up. But I'll adapt the online version.

10:16pm

10:14pm

Swansea have signed David Ngog and Marvin Emnes in this transfer window.

10:12pm

Lots and lots and lots of disgruntled tweets - my system going into meltdown.

10:11pm

10:09pm

9:59pm Fri 31 Jan 14

J J J J says

If he joins Wigan that will be a massive blow, came up with the funds for spearing when it seemed we didn't have them? Can it be done one last time?

10:03pm

And there were people telling me I could have had an early night...

10:02pm

I'm in for £50 if that's the case.

10:01pm

10:01pm

Let me just put record straight on few of the tweets - DF wants to sign Dawson. The cash just isn't there.

10:00pm

Just had it suggested to me that this is a tug of war for Dawson. One sided one if that's the case...

9:54pm

Trotter wages were described to me as "League One level" earlier.

9:53pm

9:50pm Fri 31 Jan 14

J J J J says

Get Dawson now worry later? if he wants to come then it should be us at the front of the queue

9:52pm

It's a question that needs asking. Understand the cuts that have to be made but this one is going to sting like...

9:52pm

9:51pm

It looks that way - this is fresh info. Last couple of mins.

9:51pm

9:51pm

I know from some very, very good sources that Dawson preferred the idea of a move to Bolton ahead of Wigan - hence the story I wrote last Saturday.

9:49pm

If that deal gets completed by Wigan before 11pm, I can't see it going down well...

9:48pm

The Bolton News: Craig Dawson is back in the fold at West Brom

Dawson wants to come to Wanderers - but no funds for the deal, I am being told, unless someone goes out first.

9:31pm

9:30pm

He's fit. Needs games.

9:30pm

Not that I have been told.

9:30pm

That requires a bit of good will on the player's part, no?

9:28pm

Dawson to Wigan looks like it's in full flow now...

9:24pm

I assume that would be a similar case to the Danny Graham saga - where Charlton would be the club sub-letting Sordell.

9:24pm

The Bolton News: Marvin Sordell has been rewarded with a call-up to the England Under-21 squad: Action Images

And an interesting one emerging at the bitter end of transfer deadline day.

Marvin Sordell - who has struggled to get games at Charlton - may be loaned out to Watford.

9:21pm

I'd be lying if I wasn't worried about that too. Very frustrating.

9:20pm

Think that's a question for tomorrow and the week after.

9:20pm

9:12pm Fri 31 Jan 14

Steven Battersby says

Marc, assuming we now fail in our bid to sign the left back that we were in discussions with, are you in position please to name him?

Nope. Club are holding on to him - but could still be a target in the loan window.

9:18pm

Quite a few good sources on the web are saying it's a distinct possibility.

9:17pm

Do worry that Wigan are going to bring Dawson tonight... And that would put people in an even worse mood than they already are...

9:16pm

9:10pm

And I think that's been the problem - no buyers, for anyone.
That's the reality.

But the reality is also that the club are slipping closer to the bottom three and it needs to be addressed.

9:08pm

I'm not convinced - but told there is a slim chance.

9:07pm

Fair point. One moment DF was talking about spending it, the next we were back to square one. A question for Saturday perhaps?

9:06pm

How has he got a £30m wage bill to work with? I think if that was the case, we wouldn't be having this one in, one out policy.

Silly comment.

9:04pm

9:03pm

Stress not confirmed.

9:03pm

Not confirmed but think he was at a family funeral in Plymouth. Told there was a slim chance he could still have been done.

9:00pm

9:00pm

Aye, but he charges astronomical fees. We can only use him in fits and spurts.

8:59pm

I'm being told no defenders. Only a slimline chance of a striker (probably Mason).

8:58pm

Alex Baptiste isn't a natural right back in my opinion, and it stands to reason that neither he nor Tim Ream is a left-back.

But the centre halves also looked tired.

Definitely has to be something done about it eventually.

8:56pm

8:37pm Fri 31 Jan 14

steve2403 says

If no full back today ( so dissapointing) - is there a possibility/probabil
ity of one being loaned in in 2 weeks time ?
Always hopeful

I can't see how Wanderers can get through the rest of the season without at least one more defender.

8:56pm

So it shall be nursed until 11pm when I head off to bed.

8:55pm

I can exclusively reveal that the hotel bar charged £4.10 for a pint.

8:55pm

Regardless of tonight's outcome - I'd like to remind everyone that I'll be back on blogging duty tomorrow afternoon (probably from midday) at Portman Road with Matchday Live.

8:35pm

I find it tough to believe Freedman won't try and sign another striker and at least one defender - but it does look likely that he'll have to wait until the loan window in a fortnight. That means a slimline squad for Ipswich, Bournemouth and most likely Millwall.

8:34pm

8:30pm Fri 31 Jan 14

northumberlandbwfc says

i feel freedman despite at times being hugely frustrating is building a team that if not next but certainly the season after has a great chance of going up and a better chance of staying in the premier league . in all honestly we wont go up this season and if we get a solid defender ie Dawson in the loan window we wont go down without doubt. leading to a fair size rebuild in the summer and a team of dougies players which i feel will be a good thing.

8:33pm

So Mason unlikely - but still a slight possibility before the close of play at 11pm.

Not something that is likely to keep most of you up or out of the pubs - but I'm sure a few die hards will see it through to the bitter end.

8:31pm

Glad you asked that.
Read the bottom end of this story I wrote this morning.

8:30pm

Which means I could still be waiting for Mason, theoretically.

8:29pm

Just a little explanation on Mason - it seems he had to turn down a move earlier on for family reasons. I've been told to expect the deal to be revived in the loan window - if not before!

Understatement of the week.

8:17pm

8:14pm Fri 31 Jan 14

bwfc54321 says

With all these teams that people are forecasting tomorrow, hardly any have suggested dropping spearing for Medo. In my opinion Spearing hasn't been in his best form this season and could do with a rest call it what you want but he needs dropping. Medo, when called upon has stepped up to the plate and let's face, he had more experience too than most of the shower that's currently in our squad.
As for signings a left back is a must as we all know, playing Ream or Baptiste just isn't correct as they are clearly out of position and it will cost us as it has done all season! The club should pull out all the stops to sign Craig Dawson if if it costs it will be worth it and it's actually proven!
Next on the agenda....Eagles, our "superstar" our "special attacking force" well I'm sorry, if only he put as much effort in on the field as he did in front of the mirror, shaving his legs and gelling his hair trying to look like Rylan off xfactor we would be fine! For me and a lot of fans feel if he was as good as these deluded BWFC fans think, why on earth has no one come in for him...ever?? For me he should be still sat on Burnleys bench every week!
As for Freedman, to be fair to him this guy has been up against it since he arrived. He's not had a pot to "wee" in, inherited a squad that are completely over rated & over paid. Even now the deluded BWFC fans can't understand as to why he's not out there now splashing the cash, quite simply because the current budget is being soaked up by the over rated, over paid poor excuses of footballers that Owen Coyle bought....Knight, Eagles etc
So fellow Bolton fans you better get used to this as this is what it will be like for a few years to come. DF had to basically rebuild the club but people think he can work miracles....Mourinho would struggle with this lot. Be patient DF will turn this around, he just needs your patience and support. Them who are staying away from the RBK are not helping the case at all.

8:15pm

Spearing at full-back wouldn't be such a bad idea in my opinion.

8:12pm

Very good point. Particularly if Trotter is in... Hadn't thought of that.

Rowboti04 says

Been looking for a full back (either side) all day and not found one. Seems Dawson is available.

Personally, I'd cut our losses and get ANY defender at this point and try to shuffle the pack a bit. If Wigan try for Dawson, so should we. We need a defender now, we know he prefers us. Let's go for it and see what happens.

8:10pm

Back again. Finally reached the hotel with 23 minutes of battery remaining on my laptop. Phew!

7:31pm

Only, 24 miles to Ipswich...

7:30pm

Know he's popular but wouldn't you agree that full back is more important at the moment?

7:29pm

if you don't ask, you don't get.

7:29pm

It's been white knuckle actually doing it. Just passed a place called Diss.

7:28pm

dont think so. For some reason he's asked to stay in the short term.

7:26pm

Have to say I don't expect anything to get done now. The last transfer window sparked into life in the last hour - Peter Ramage and Michael Kightly emerged out of nowhere.

Have we done something yet since trotter?

other than loaned out Craig Davies, no.

Well we've finally reached Suffolk, and it hasn't washed away. Five hours of solid rain.

7:16pm

the number 10 position is his favourite one, I remember him telling me.

7:14pm

Lonners
Baptiste, Mills, Knight, Ream
Trotter Spearing
Hall Moritz Davies
Jutkiewicz

7:11pm

On Darcy Blake, will check, but he suffered a bad knee injury in Dec 2012 so not sure what his status is at the moment.

7:04pm

i think it will be Jutkiewicz up front alone with Moritz just behind him.

Team VS Ipswich in my view : Lonergan, White( providing he proves his fitness), Mills, Ream, Baptiste, Medo, Mark Davies, Moritz, Danns, Wilkinson/ Jutkiewicz. Trotter not trained enough with the squad yet so should not get a starting birth.

He should be OK.

We're away so 451.

Lonergan, Mears, Mills, Ream, Baptiste; CYL, Danns, Mark Davies, Spearing, Moritz. Jutkiewicz

6:18pm

So, what team would you play at Ipswich tomorrow??

6:17pm

I'm on the A14. It's just taken me 10 minutes of on and off calls for my wife to remind me to do some washing when I get back... That does not sound like a conversation I want to have with a manager on deadline day!

6:15pm

6:13pm

Reopens in two weeks. Think we're going to have to wait until then for any new defenders/strikers.

2002me says

im back but have we done anything since trotter?

I've done about 250 miles...

6:06pm

Flagging now. So I'll put a non-transfer related question out there.

If Wanderers don't make another signing, and assuming Trotter is available, what would your team be at Ipswich tomorrow?

5:53pm

Yes - some fans get quite upset when you refer to Mark Davies as Mavies. I had to stop - couldn't handle the constant emails.

5:47pm

Well, Davies was initially being let out to fund an incoming move. DF was after a defender but nothing has happened at present.
Trotter became available - for very little cost - so where that leaves us, I'm not sure.

5:44pm

5:44pm

Yes - Gretski helped the club bring Bastos to Bolton.

5:41pm

Nothing interesting going on in the Premier League, is there.

In fact, there's nowt going on anywhere I look at the moment.

5:34pm

Ah the A14.... About six hours of sitting behind farm vehicles at 25mph and I should be in Ipswich.

5:33pm

5:30pm

This time next year we'll be.... oh, wait.

5:30pm

5:28pm

A few have said this over the last few days. See no reason why it couldn't work.
Only problem is - who'd play on the left?

5:19pm

My hunch is that we won't see any more signings until the loan window now unless an offer comes in for one of our players.

5:14pm

He has been with the development squad but to my knowledge he's not under contract. Seemed short of match fitness to me.

5:13pm

Haven't heard anything on that front.

5:12pm

Beckford should be back next week  - but looks like Jukiewicz will be up there alone with Moritz behind him tomorrow.
The flip side is that the club isn't panic buying, as may have been the case in the past.

5:09pm

It is a good one.

5:09pm

5:03pm Fri 31 Jan 14

Pat1992 says

off subject now, did anyone see big sams post match interview after chelsea? pure class absolutely brilliant if you haven't i suggest you do

You can find the interview here.

5:04pm

It is - a fortnight after this one closes.

5:03pm

Have a call out to check. No progress that I know of for a left-back or any other variety of defender.

5:01pm

Sounds like we'll have to wait for Mason.

5:01pm

That's what I gather. Nice bit of inside knowledge, though.

4:55pm

4:55pm

Rain on the M1 has subsided from a deluge to a heavy storm. Could have taken a speedboat down as far as Nottingham.

4:51pm

As for centre-halves - I'm hearing that David Wheater is back in full training as of Monday. That could be a timely boost... just hope they don't think about playing him at right-back again.

4:50pm

4:45pm

One interesting thing I have noted is that Wanderers are sticking to their targets rather than adopting the scattergun approach other clubs seem to be today.

You get the feeling that if DF doesn't land a defender that he has thoroughly researched, he won't sign anyone.

Rightly or wrongly.

4:42pm

4:42pm

That was the original plan. Now DF was struggling to find a suitable player this morning - but we'll see.

4:40pm

Major league rain coming down on this motorway.

4:34pm

Davies joins until the end of the season, as expected.

4:32pm

Manager Simon Grayson said: “Craig will add further quality and competition for us in the busy period we have between now and the end of the season.

“The fact we have been able to sign a player who has been starting at a Championship club shows our intentions and I am grateful to Mr Hemmings for allowing us again improve the options we have available to us.”

Davies himself was looking forward to regular first team football, adding: “I am looking forward to getting plenty of games under my belt.

"It has been a while since I played a few games in a row so hopefully I can do that here.

“I have been a bit unfortunate the first part of the season through injury, but hopefully the second half of the season I can do really well and play a lot of games for Preston and help push for promotion.”

4:31pm

In my haste to take over - nearly missed that Craig Davies has now been announced as a Preston player.

4:28pm

The Bolton News: Cardiff striker Joe Mason has joined Wanderers on loan

With Ivan Ramis not leaving Wigan are we now the frontrunners for Dawson? Get him in the loan window and this will have been a successful window :)

It'll be interesting to see what happens now. Still don't think anything will happen today.

4:23pm

I don't think Dawson will be going anywhere today by the sounds of things.
Wigan are struggling to get rid of Ramis - so that might put them at a disadvantage.

4:22pm

Tell me about it. I've been at this five days now and done one sale and two signings.

4:21pm

4:21pm

But as many of you are noting - it doesn't do much to solve the defensive problems.

4:20pm

Well, I'm happy that Liam Trotter is through the door if only for all the Only Fools and Horses puns I'll now be able to use in headlines/intros.

4:18pm

A very philosophical question. Who are any of us?

Clearly these three are three that DF wanted from the start. Bastos signing seemed easy going. The Trotter rumour started early this morning and Mason he has wanted for a while.

It is also clear there are funds for both Mason and a right/left back. Like I said, this could be a good window, hopefully by 11pm we have signed 5 players.

Well done Dougie.

4:11pm

That's it from me...hope I have kept you all informed on my mini-shift with the Trotter signing.

Here's hoping there are more stories to break later for our main Wanderers man Marc Iles.

He's ready in situ somewhere on the road to Suffolk to take you through to 11pm..

3:59pm

Bit of a lull at present.

Let's look at what we know so far...

Bastos and Trotter are in, Craig Davies is all but out on loan...

Still no news on Joe Mason returning as concrete, though it is being discussed.

No left or right back yet either!

Exiled Wanderer says

Really don't understand singing Trotter. Whilst I grant he has been excellent when he has played against us. Then with Graig Davies going out on loan allegedly to free up funds for other signing why strengthen in a department that currently is our strongest and will be even more so when Stuart Holden returns in a month or two? This is even more confusing when you consider that the defence is crying out for reinforcements and we desperately need a striker who knows where the goal is, ie not Joe Mason!

3:41pm

3:41pm

As we reported...Liam Trotter is now officially a ...well, Trotter

3:39pm

3:38pm

3:36pm

All gone quiet on that front with the last links to Danny Graham being with Forest and Middlesbrough.. You never know though.

With Craig Davies out there is certainly a need for another striker in my opinion

Jason Puncheon's permanent move to Palace from Southampton could have a knock-on effect for Wanderers...it might cool their reported interest in Chung-Yong Lee.

Not sure on that. Trotter is all but permanent but initially regarded as a loan.
It may depend on whether any are shipped out but I can honestly only see loans really with the current financial predicament

3:18pm

Funny from Crawley Town

More from tomorrow's opponents Ipswich and it relates locally to Bury...

Ipswich have agreed to extend the loan of former Manchester United and City defender Frederic Veseli at the JD Stadium until February 22

Short web outage...apologies for going silent for a short while.

Still no confirmation on Craig Davies to Preston or Liam Trotter's signing but we understand both are done.

Joe Mason is still in the pipeline for a return but not completed yet

2:48pm

DONE DEAL: Liam Trotter is a Wanderers player on loan with view to a permanent deal in the summer.

Small fee involved in the summer I understand.

He is elgible to play tomorrow against his home town club Ipswich if the paperwork gets approved.

Looks like Kevin Davies has let the cat out of the bag as far as Craig Davies going to Preston on loan is concerned..

Still no confirmation from the clubs though

2:16pm

My information at present is that no-one is leaving the club maybe aside from the earlier mentioned Craig Davies on loan.

That could change but at present no-one has approached Wanderers about any players and that includes Chung-Yong Lee.

On the defensive search, Dougie Freedman is now looking at bringing in a right-back and switching Alex Baptiste across to the left if he does not get anywhere with bringing in a left-back.

If he signs I am told it is more likely to be on a pemranent deal and not a loan move.

A Trotter signing for the Trotters? Whatever next, Boycie on the wing and Trigger sweeping up at the back with that old council broom??

12:41pm

On that note, I'm going to be handing over to Dave Pye for a bit. No doubt he'll get all the interesting stuff.

12:40pm

Chung-Yong Lee is the one I thought might just get some attention. Thought it might actually be Stoke - but Pulis does make sense if the Ince deal has fallen down. Hmmm.

the signing of a left back ,''no further along'' - ARE THE EVEN TRYING ?

as usual apathy abounds.

Two big questions for Freedman -
1. Why let Sam Rickets go and go into the season with only one left back ( nearly as bad a decision as Owen Coyle selling Habsi - a MAJOR reason we went down)
2. Why buy Craig Davies, the not play him, not rate him, and forever try and loan him out ?

My head hurts

11:55am

As in sell him? No takers.

11:54am

Of course, there is the option of bringing in a right-back (as they did with McNaughton) and having Alex Baptiste/Tim Ream play at left back.

11:53am

That's a tough one. Anyone got suggestions?

Trying to look at the Mason signing positively.

He is quick and sharp and his movement is often very good. I agree with others that if he is to play, we must play 442. Probably Beckford and Mason for me, which means we need to get control of the ball in midfield. It's important that we maintain posession in there which we have struggled to do recently. Presonally, I think I'd actually play 4132, with a narrow midfield, allowing Spearing, Medo, Mark Davies and Pratley to try to control the game. That will then allow for Mason and Beckford to bu successful.

If we can't control the posession, however, signing Mason really would be a waste.

10:38am

Rowboti04 says

Why do fans see these signings as 'unambitious'? Personally, I think the mere fact that we are still looking to bring players in despite our massive debt is ambitious enough.

10:19am

10:18am

Encouraging news from a Wanderers perspective at Ipswich as Fulham close in on Ryan Tunicliffe. Would leave them with just 17 fit outfield players for tomorrow's game.

10:17am

Blackpool have loaned Andy Keogh from Millwall and taken Middlesbrough's Faris Haroun.

10:16am

Elsewhere in the Championship, Liam Bridcutt has finally left Brighton to sign for Sunderland and Aaron Hughes looks like he's on his way from Fulham to QPR.

10:13am

Here is confirmation in story form of Joe Mason's upcoming move to Wanderers

10:11am

Well, I'm sure I wasn't the only one who noticed he had softened on the idea a couple of weeks ago and said that two strikers up front "was helping us."

10:10am

Evens on what? I think it looks likely he'll come on loan to Bolton.

10:10am

Game of opinions indeed...

10:10am

10:09am

I'm not expecting anything. But then I didn't expect Mason to be sorted until the loan window! Wigan very much in the driving seat because of finances on that one, though.

10:08am

10:00am

He has also confirmed that Kevin McNaughton will NOT be loaned out again.

"He is an important part of our squad because he is very adaptable," said the Norweigan coach.

9:59am

Solskjaer has confirmed that Joe Mason could be joining Bolton Wanderers on loan today.

9:58am

Right, here's a treat for you from the BBC. Owen Coyle taking us through how a deal is made on transfer deadline day... This is a real thing!

9:43am

Just managed to contact my opposing number at Cardiff to see if he can fling a question about Mason into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's press conference. So hopefully we should get some guidance fairly soon on Mason.

9:27am

9:25am

I don't think Bogdan is going anywhere. It was just an interesting link.

9:24am

Millwall still want decent money up front for him. Reckon that one might crop up again in the summer.

9:16am

Deadline day deals reviewed on Lion of Vienna Suite. Read here for the good, the bad, and the ugly.

9:14am

Shot down before it even began!

9:14am

9:13am

But nothing at all to suggest that is the case from my end. I stress that.

9:13am

Have to say, when I heard about the young Chesterfield keeper coming in to train yesterday, the Bogdan/Lonergan scenario did cross my mind.

9:10am

The Bolton News: Adam Bogdan has had his return delayed

Interesting one...

9:09am

9:09am

The Bolton News: Joe Mason played with Ashley Barnes at Plymouth

Joe Mason - plenty of rumour flying round that a deal to bring him back to the Reebok on loan could be in the offing.

Surprises me, but then you never know!

9:07am

9:07am

Holloway again...

9:06am

Maybe so. You live in hope, though.

9:05am

Referring to Holloway... Yes, seemed like a strange thing to say. Almost as if he wanted the deal to be done...

9:05am

I'm told he has come to the end of a rehab programme after his knee problem. Reckon he will be ready for selection as of next week.

Would love to have a dream deadline day with unwanted players being bought and championship know how players coming in on a small wage. Maybe next year eh?

8:45am

It just needs confirming by the club. I understand it's all done - and I'm hoping to write something today on that very subject!

8:40am

An interesting report on Wanderers' loanees, Keith Andrews, Marvin Sordell and Tom Eaves here on Burnden Aces

I will try and keep an eye out for all the Wanderers websites and provide links through the day.

8:37am

I'm hoping to get the go-ahead to write that one today.

8:36am

8:36am

If that's the worst I get today, I'll be fine!

8:36am

8:34am

I seriously wish I could.
I also wish I had a quid for every time someone has asked me...

8:21am

The Bolton News: Ian Holloway has left Blackpool to join Crystal Palace as manager.

Already a bit of juicy news to spread with you...

This fella, Ian Holloway, is upset that Wanderers have aproached Liam Trotter. Read the story from the excellent Millwall site News at Den here.

8:17am

The Bolton News: NO BREAKDOWN: Craig Davies

The story of yesterday was the great Wanderers trade-off - Craig Davies for an un-named left-back...

8:15am

The Bolton News: Hayden White

There was no shortage of praise for Hayden White's debut against QPR. Will he get another chance against Ipswich?

8:14am

The Bolton News: Keeping the faith: Tim Ream

Tim Ream could make a surprise return at the weekend, albeit looking a bit rougher than he did before. Read the story here.

8:12am

OK - let's look at what's happening elsewhere on the BN website...

8:07am

But I think it's important to make the distinction that DF has only moved out a striker on loan because Preston actually made an offer. If someone had come in for Tyrone Mears, for example, then those funds would have been used for a left-back.

It's a tough choice - and obviously a risk.

8:05am

Whow knows?

8:05am

Mason would be a loan window signing, I think. Cardiff still making their mind up.

8:04am

8:04am

Well, don't want to get hopes up too high. But it would be nice for a couple of surprise deals to go through.

8:03am

Thanks. I think.

8:03am

7:56am

7:55am

Not linked with a GK - just had him come in to train. The midfielder one is a mystery but I think it will only happen if someone other than Davies leaves today.
As for being linked with a particular left-back - the name is still not out in the public domain for a reason.

7:53am

I don't think so. I'd imagine West Brom will wait until the loan window reopens before sending him out for a 93-day stint, rather than the full season. That's my hunch anyway.

7:51am

I had NOTHING to do with that.

7:50am

I agree. Opens in a fortnight.

7:49am

Was told by a journalist down there that the two clubs were only £25,000 apart in their valuation of the player - so I can't see it being a huge fee. Either way, Wanderers are unlikely to land themselves with another salary unless they move someone on.

7:43am

Not for now. Wouldn't be surprised to see that revisited in the summer.

7:41am

That nearly rhymed.

7:40am

I honestly think one. One in, one out. But things happen really quickly as managers up and down the land start getting twitchy.

7:39am

I don't think anyone has come in for him. But you never know!

7:39am

Might resurrect the Miguel Veloso one.

7:37am

This is the million dollar question. There have been a few hints that something might happen today, not least the surprising interest in Liam Trotter.

7:35am

7:35am

The Bolton News: Lionel Messi

This man, Lionel Messi, will not be coming to the Reebok in the January window.

7:31am

The Bolton News: Liam Trotter

The man in black here, Liam Trotter, continues to be linked with a cut-price move to Wanderers. But word from the camp is that someone will have to move on before anyone is sold.

7:28am

The Bolton News: dougie-freedman-crystal-palace-manager.jpg

This man, Dougie Freedman, is tasked with finding a left-back.

7:27am

The Bolton News: NO BREAKDOWN: Craig Davies

This man, Craig Davies, looks like he's heading to Preston North End on loan.

There was quite a reaction from Bolton fans about the deal yesterday.

7:25am

What can we expect today?

7:22am

Enough with the getting-to-know you stuff. On with the transfers...

7:20am

The Bolton News: Marc Iles

I'm Marc Iles - based currently at my trusty kitchen table - but later journeying down to Ipswich in preparation for tomorrow's game. Providing capable back-up, Dave Pye will take over a lunchtime to mid-afternoon shift, and inevitably get all the juicy signings, leaving me to discuss very little.

That is a dreadful picture of me, by the way, but actually the best one we have on file. I really must get some new ones done...

7:17am

For the next 16 hours, we'll be monitoring all the little snippets of transfer information from the Reebok - separating the fact from the fiction (trademark Jack Dearden, 1961) - and also keeping you abreast of the moves elsewhere in the Championship.

7:15am

It's a day for Sky sources, rumour, conjecture, whispers, ins, outs and roundabouts - the January window is about to close and Wanderers have still got some shopping to do.

7:13am

Good morning. It's that time again...

This season has been one of the worst I can recall as a Wanderers fan. We have lurched from one crisis to another. Every transfer window we live in hope right up to the last minute only to be let down again. Even before the season started with the quick quid fiasco we embarrassed ourselves. I'm convinced the lack of signings is payback for the real fans rejection of such an awful sponsor. All this none sense talk of FFP is a smokescreen. Check the facts and rules, it hasn't affected teams such Forest Derby Blackburn QPR. What other buisness would be run as badly as this. Crowds down, sponsorship down corporate sales down team down fans down . Excuse after excuse from the manager, silence from the board, Pathetic articles in them BEN from player after player. Let's stop cosying upto the manager chairman and players and think of the real fans who stood at Scarborough Halifax Darlinton and in acres of space at burden the ones who bought the lifeline the ones who are Bolton till I die who don't get paid by them or for writing about them. Think of them when your intveiwng and hearing the same repetative drool.

Liamdog,

I'm sure plenty of people would've stood in the terraces with you on those cold nights in Darlington etc if they were actually alive.

It's not about cosying up to the manager, it's about understanding the situation that he is in. He has a poor team, earning far too much money and he has to get rid of some (which nobody wants) to bring in who he wants. He can't sell players to teams that don't want them and thus, he can't get anyone in.

He has a bit if money now that N'Gog and Davies have gone so we'll have to wait and see what happens. I reckon Mason will come in, who is no worse than N'Gog, I also think something is happening with Steinsson and hopefully a late, late loan bid for Dawson with what we have left. Something like that is really the best we can hope for.

"As an aside, can anyone stop the video auto-run every time I visit Bolton News?"
"I seriously wish I could.
I also wish I had a quid for every time someone has asked me..."

Basically, on Chrome and Firefox there's an extension called AdBlock Plus (ABP) - I think it's also available on IE.
Install that into your browser of choice but then the video window has to be added manually to the 'blocked' list:
- In Chrome - click on the ABP logo (top right of the screen). Click on 'Block Element' then click on the annoying video window and follow the instructions.
- In Firefox - a small tab that says 'Block' should appear to the top right of the annoying video when you hover your mouse cursor over it. Click on that and then follow the instructions.

Thing is, like all pop-ups/vids similar to this, the link that is blocked may change after a while so it'll need adding to the blocked list every so often if it ever slips through again.

There are financially risky ways to get around the FFP, sure, but only worth it if you have enough money in the pot anyway, which we don't, or you're confident of having enough money in the future to pay off any potential fines, which we don't. We're actually being very careful - that huge loss we made this last tax year? A lot of stuff got brought forward so our loss next year, when FFP is in action, shouldn't be as heavy.

If we can't control the posession, however, signing Mason really would be a waste.

the signing of a left back ,''no further along'' - ARE THE EVEN TRYING ?

as usual apathy abounds.

With all the issues going on at the moment behind the scenes, with the money situation, ageing squad, FFP, PL wages, players out of form/luck, injuries etc etc (plus any others that people can think of) i think DF has done a brilliant job! Not many managers would of come in with all this going on with DF's determination, passion, attitude and the fact that he has got a long-term plan for the club with all the restraints, we are lucky to have him. Thank god we haven't got Harry Redknapp in charge because we would already be down, he needs money to succeed (Portsmouth, Spurs, QPR etc) and DF does not! DF can succeed and work under VERY strict constraints. We have to trust the loans he brings in this window. The players he brought in on loan (be it short term) in November were great. They came in a very important time with a run of fixtures piling up and an important time in the football calender year and some fresh faces in which shook things up. They were great loan signings. Don't get me wrong...i am gutted with what has happens over the last few years and i have shouted from the terraces and scratched my head at some of the teams/substitutions and in game tactics DF does but at the same time, i think he has NO other choice but to make these decisions. But i don't think there would be any other manager who could work under these constraints. Taking all these factors into consideration, if we stay up, then DF has done very well and i shall thank god for DF! Maybe next year we can get a player who can score a few and then the year after get a solid center half in and keep our goals conceded stat down. This might take 2 years, might take another 12 years but i trust in DF and these players that they can survive this fight and take us forward with very small steps at a time. And the first step is staying up this year (no problem!) and then maybe bring a player in who will make all that difference.
Keep your heads up people (DF and players aswell), this Bolton fan doesn't mind taking 2-3 steps back to take 1 forward. Even if it takes 12 years!!! COME ON YOU WHITE MEN!!

the signing of a left back ,''no further along'' - ARE THE EVEN TRYING ? as usual apathy abounds. Two big questions for Freedman - 1. Why let Sam Rickets go and go into the season with only one left back ( nearly as bad a decision as Owen Coyle selling Habsi - a MAJOR reason we went down) 2. Why buy Craig Davies, the not play him, not rate him, and forever try and loan him out ? My head hurts
The club should have made it clear that Craig Davies was injured. Most fans I know have been wondering what had happened to him. Then we get a news report when he returns and sent on loan!! The club is a joke as far as I am concerned and on a downward spiral due to incompetent management by the board.

I still buy by season ticket though and support the team, but I'm beginning to lose interest.

We may find out Marc who will stand on the rainy terraces in Darlington once again the way were headed. Apologies but checking out the picture I presumed you were older! . I'm sure we all know by now the current plight of Wanderers finances. After all there is more reported. On this than the managers tactics or the boards decision making. But questions need to be asked. How many midfielders do we actually need without a left back. How many out of form strikers will we try before our own youth is given a fare run. Why not try 2 up front and attack teams as the fans want. We don't mind ,losing but let's put up a decent fight. Please for the fans sake put some questions worth answering to the club.
One final comment I agree the comment. You enquired about placing as a letter in the BEN was very well put. But again this is only one side of the argument with the exception of my ramblings there have been some excellent less favourable comments on this forum that could have also been included.

When people say we need more championship experience that is the eqivalante to saying promoted teams to the premiership need premiership experience alla Eagles Chungy Davies. And I can't see a que forming just yet. Two seasons and the players so far brought in is surely enough for a professional footballer to get his round what is required in the division.
With regards to the FFP can I suggest someone does actually get there facts right ref Forest Derby QPR spending and the back up pot required ! Check the rules. I genuinely hope DF proves me wrong and turns out to be an inspired choice of manager but Gartsides recent appointments have not filled me with hope. How many are actually today, Yet look at the managers whose names we're touted at times when Wanderers were replacing managers most have been very successfull.

@TimRibgby - hope you can read my reply, not on Twitter to do so...
I agree with you, our squad is FAR from brilliant (though we have seen flashes of it ) and the 7-1 savage beating at Reading was totally unacceptable and the players should of felt shameful picking up their wages for that week. However, I didn't say the squad was brilliant due to the small factor that he can't do much else. I said if DF keeps us up and the job he has done up to now is brilliant. I was trying to bring another side of the argument to everyone. Maybe if people got on an equal footing with DF and the players with the realistic expectation/level we can achieve realistically maybe 18th and survival is a good result and something we might just have to accept for the time being (though its painful to admit)
Is he the right man to motivate and get the player working for him. From what I've seen so far this season its a big NO!!. Let's hope he can turn things around.
Still cant up load to the link provided but sure some people will view it. Thanks for the offer though lol.
Things do seem a little flat and the signings in November worked a treat o maybe this window will out well swell.

Last minute deal to snatch Dawson from right under Wigan's noses would be awesome. Might have to wait till the loan window though. If DF cannot get a wing back, providing Hayden White proves his fitness let him and Baptiste run the wing backs and make Dawson top priority for centre that way we have that extra defender incase ream has to slot in at LB

To part-quote my post from this morning:
"There are financially risky ways to get around the FFP, sure, but only worth it if you have enough money in the pot anyway, which we don't, or you're confident of having enough money in the future to pay off any potential fines, which we don't. "

Which African players could we get right now who would manage to have a work-permit rubber stamped before the 11pm deadline?

If Dawson comes in it could add more depth to the defence and would settle a lot of minds, if he comes in fans think he will have the same impact as last season, he did add a lot, I would leave Baptiste on the left, might be easier getting a right back if that's not the case White can come in and do a shift, if an injury comes in Ream can always slot in as a temporary left back.

If Dawson joins Wigan it will be the final nail in this seasons coffin and the end for DF and Gartside .

What we will lose in lost home crowd revenue the remainder of the season would pay for him

Well that's a positive that he's not signed for them lot down the road.
But to make a bad day even worse the clown himself Owen Coyle is on BBC football focus talking about deadline day!! You can write on the back of a stamp what he knows about football!! It's because of that numpty we are in this mess!! He should stick to playing ping pong!! The man is clueless.

get some big african players who can tackle and put fear in the oppositions eyes like we did many years ago, ignore FFP its not affected other teams.

You can pick up African players who already play in Europe so no need for clearance
