Dougie Freedman tells Bolton Wanderers players not to get carried away

The Bolton News: Dougie Freedman wants his players to keep their feet on the ground Dougie Freedman wants his players to keep their feet on the ground

DOUGIE Freedman admits his biggest task this week will be keeping his players’ feet on the ground after the derby demolition against Blackburn Rovers.

While the fans can enjoy Saturday’s win – the club’s biggest over their local rivals for 86 years – a little longer, it was back to work for the Wanderers players on Monday morning.

Back-to-back victories have finally got the Whites moving back up the Championship table but with tough-looking trips to both Leeds United and Derby County on the horizon, Freedman, pictured, is cautious about allowing his players to revel in their change in fortunes.

“Sportsmen allow their feelings to get too high sometimes and too low sometimes, that’s just a pitfall of the profession,” he said. “It’s in their blood because they are committed people.

“So it’s down to us, the coaches, to make sure that when they come into work, they know they are there to do just that.

“When the whistle goes, we look forward, and try to better ourselves.”

Freedman has also hinted that he will not change a winning formula at Elland Road on Saturday, having stuck with his dual strikeforce of Lukas Jutkiewicz and Joe Mason for the last two games.

With signs of progress there for all to see, the manager now sees no reason why his in-form side cannot go and get three points at a ground on which they have not won since 2003.

“I’m looking forward to that game now, rather than scratching my head and thinking what the team is going to look like,” he said.

“It won’t take a rocket scientist to see what side we are putting out or how we are playing right now.

“It’s an ex-club of mine and one that I had a wonderful time at, but I’m looking forward to winning.”
