DEPARTING Wanderers skipper Kevin Davies has been granted a testimonial by the club for his decade of service, and will get to say a proper goodbye to the fans in a farewell game at the Reebok.
It was originally thought Davies would not have a benefit match after confusion between player and club following the release of a statement in March, on his birthday, confirming the 36-year-old would not be offered a new deal once his current contract expired this summer.
Fans reacted angrily to the suggestion but, as reported in The Bolton News, the club were not averse to it and stressed Davies only had to ask  and one would be granted.
The club maintained that stance and the fact they would need Football League approval.
That has now been given and sources close to Davies have informed The Bolton News it is all systems go for a game at the Reebok, though no date has yet been confirmed.
It means the player dubbed SKD (Super Kevin Davies) will get to celebrate his 10-year career with Wanderers – a decade that has seen him make more than 400 appearances.
It looked like it may end on a sour note as the striker sat out the final eight matches of the season and even lost his place on the bench in the final few games.
But he was heralded by fans and team-mates alike on a lap of thanks following the final home match against Blackpool.
Now the fans will get to give Davies a proper send-off.
The Sheffielder, who is Wanderers’ all-time Premier League record goalscorer and won an England cap in 2010, will now form a testimonial committee to put in place arrangements for a variety of testimonial events, including that farewell Reebok match.
Before that, Davies, who is currently on his UEFA A licence course at St George’s Park alongside fellow professionals Phil Neville and Robbie Fowler, has a date in the Caribbean playing in the third annual Barbados Legends Tournament this month.
He will line-up for a PFA All-Stars side in the two-day event against legends from Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.
