OWEN Coyle claims he will not let Wanderers’ league worries affect his approach to this Sunday’s FA Cup fifth-round tie against Tottenham.

Injuries have stacked up for the Whites boss in recent weeks but he has assured the club’s supporters that he will not sacrifice a place in the quarter-finals by fielding a weakened team.

Just three days after the televised cup tie, Wanderers travel to relegation rivals Wigan with a vital three points at stake.

And while Coyle, pictured, accepts his team are under pressure to get a result at the DW Stadium to climb clear of the bottom three, he is not prepared to write-off an opportunity to make the last eight for the first time in five years.

“It’s an opportunity to get into the latter stages of the FA Cup — the best cup competition in the entire world,” he said. “How can that be a distraction?

“I think we all recognise the Premier League is the be-all and end-all but there’s no doubt about it, we’ll be putting a team out there to represent this football club and get a result.”

Coyle was pleased with his side’s performance at Eastlands on Tuesday night, despite seeing them go down to a fourth defeat in their last six league games.

And he paid special tribute to the travelling supporters, whom he hopes will prove equally vociferous at the Reebok this weekend.

“The fans’ backing against Manchester City was absolutely tremendous,” he said. “I didn’t prompt them, but every one of the players went over to thank them for that. They were hugely outnumbered but you wouldn’t have thought so. They were the ones we heard singing all night.

“They are an absolute credit to the football club and we have to go out and reward them now with the points — and also with the performances.

“They were terrific against City and that’s the level we need again against Tottenham on Sunday.”

Andy O’Brien is likely to be contention for the first FA Cup meeting between the two sides since 2002, when Darren Anderton and Matthew Etherington were among the scorers in a 4-0 win for the north Londoners.

Vladimir Weiss and Jack Wilshere are both cup tied, however, leaving the way clear for Matt Taylor or Ricardo Gardner to return on the left side of midfield.
