OWEN Coyle has put the ball in Arsenal’s court over Jack Wilshere – but insists Gary Cahill is not part of any deal with the Gunners.

The Wanderers boss confirmed that he has asked Arsene Wenger to send his young starlet, pictured, back to the Reebok next season, if he cannot assure him regular first team football at the Emirates.

But he has scotched reports that suggest Wilshere will be used as a makeweight, or sweetener, in a big money deal for defender Cahill.

“I can put that to bed right now,” the Whites boss told The Bolton News. “There has been no dialogue about Gary Cahill whatsoever, with Arsenal or anyone else for that matter.

“I have got no desire to lose Gary – he’s a big, big part of what I am trying to do here.”

Coyle is hopeful that having enjoyed his first stint, that England Under-21 international Wilshere would pick a return to Lancashire ahead of Newcastle United, who are said to be rivalling Wanderers for his signature.

“I have called Arsene Wenger to thank him for letting us have him last season,” explained the manager.

“I think it was a fantastic experience for him, and a very worthwhile one for us too.

“I honestly think he improved as a player, so we have asked the question – if he feels that Jack is not quite ready for first team football next season, and there is no shame in that, then we would love the opportunity to bring him back next season and let him continue his development.

“The fans can see what a great young English talent he is, and I believe that with another full season under his belt, that he can really push on.

“That’s how we left it – so we’ll both go away and take a break, and then see what happens.”

Wilshere sums up the kind of player Coyle is looking to recruit this summer, as he looks to provide a more technical edge to his side next season.

“He is so hungry to develop and has a maturity well beyond his years,” he said.

“He can take a tackle and he’s got that maverick ability on the ball that I really love in my players.

“A deal would benefit Jack Wilshere, benefit Arsenal, and benefit Bolton Wanderers – it is the perfect scenario.”
