OWEN Coyle admits his work in the transfer market will probably go right down to the wire.

The Wanderers boss sealed his third summer signing on Tuesday, finally concluding his long pursuit of Spanish full-back Marcos Alonso from Real Madrid.

But the manager maintains hope that his will not be the last new face to come through the doors at the Reebok, with a pacey striker still high on his list of priorities.

“I’m always looking to improve and I’m not finished yet,” said Coyle, pictured. “It’s easy to say there will be two or three new signings – but what I can say is that I’ll look to add a couple more before the end of the month.

“You can never say definitively that it will happen because as you saw with the Marcos Alonso deal, it can be quite complex.

“We’ll do our utmost to improve the squad by the start of the season, and if not, certainly the close of the window.”

Coyle could yet try and resurrect the deal to sign Spain Under-19 international Rodrigo Moreno, who figured for his country in their 3-1 victory over England in the European Championship semi-finals on Tuesday.

The Real Madrid striker is expected to sign terms with Benfica on his return from the tournament but it is understood that Wanderers will make one last-ditch effort to convince him to join his former Bernabeu team-mate Alonso.

Moving in the opposite direction, it seems almost certain that the Reebok’s forgotten man, Nicky Hunt, will join Bristol City this week after the full-back travelled back from talks with Steve Coppell yesterday.

The former England Under-21 international will join the Championship side on a free transfer, ending an association with his hometown club that stretches back nine years.

Hunt has not figured in a first team game for Wanderers since coming on as a substitute against Arsenal in March 2008, a cameo that ended within three minutes after he sustained a shoulder injury.

Such problems have dogged his career with the Whites, although he has experienced successful loan spells with Birmingham City and Derby County over the last two seasons.

Meanwhile, the arrival of Alonso on Tuesday has opened the door for Jlloyd Samuel to discuss terms with Newcastle United.

The Trinidad and Tobago international could finalise his move to St James’ Park by the weekend, when Wanderers travel north to Scotland for two pre-season games against Falkirk, on Saturday, and St Johnstone on Monday evening.
