GARY Cahill became the first Bolton Wanderers player for eight years to play for England last night.
The Whites centre half came on as a second-half substitute in England’s 4-0 victory over Bulgaria in their opening European Championships qualifying game at Wembley.
After replacing the injured Michael Dawson in the 56th minute, 24-year-old Cahill slotted in well.
He became the first player from the Reebok Stadium to play for England since Michael Ricketts earned his one and only cap on February 13, 2002, and was substited at half time in a 1-1 draw against Holland in Amsterdam.
