OWEN Coyle admits he has a massive selection headache to cure as Gary Cahill returns from suspension at West Brom on Saturday.

Having seen Zat Knight and Sam Ricketts mark Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov out of Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United, the Wanderers boss knows he must now disappoint one of his centre-halves ahead of the trip to the Hawthorns. England international Cahill has been missing since his red card against Arsenal, but knowing that two into three doesn’t go – Coyle accepts he has some serious thinking to do over the next few days.

“It’s always great to have your best players available and playing at the top of their game,” he said. “That’s what we have got with those three.

“A manager has to pick his best team from game to game, so we’ll get through training this week, see how everyone is and go from there.

“We have got some tough decisions to make but that’s not just on the centre-half position, that’s right throughout the team.”

Coyle has already shown his ruthless streak this season, bringing Jussi Jaaskelainen straight back after suspension in place of Adam Bogdan.

But the manager claims he is happy to get a few angry knocks on his office door, if it means having a more competitive squad.

“Adam had been playing out of his skin and it was disappointing for him – in fact I told him to be disappointed, because of how well he had done,” he said.

“It was a big decision but as a manager, that’s what you are charged with, so we’ll do it again.”

Cahill has missed three games, including two against his former clubs Aston Villa and Burnley, after the FA turned down his appeal against his controversial red card at the Emirates.

And Coyle hopes his prized defensive asset will emerge stronger from the experience.

“He’s been very frustrated, doubly so because he knows he has been treated terribly,” he said. “It was very, very harsh what happened to him, but he’s had setbacks before and come back bigger and stronger, and that’s what he’s going to have to do again.”
