OWEN Coyle has been assured he will not lose top players such as Chung-Yong Lee and Mark Davies this summer.

The Wanderers boss has been told to press ahead with bringing three new faces to the Reebok, without the fear of having to sell any of his contracted young talents to balance the books.

But it is understood Wanderers are willing to batten down the hatches if any of the lingering speculation over Chung-Yong or Davies – persistently linked with Newcastle United – firms up in the next few months.

The club are confident they will avoid an issue with Chung-Yong because he spent so long out of action last season with a double fracture of his leg.

Turkish club Trabzonspor were yesterday credited with an interest in the former FC Seoul man, apparently down to the fact that coach Senol Günes had given Chung-Yong his international debut while in charge of South Korea in 2009.

Rumours have rumbled since the winger gave some ambiguous comments to local journalists on his arrival in Thailand a few days ago to participate in a charity match for his friend Park Ji-Sung.

“I haven’t thought about my future yet,” he said. “The season has just finished and I just want to take some holiday now. I'm not going to hurry to think about my future because we have a few months before next season, but I can say now that I am a Bolton Wanderers player.”

That ambiguity was hardly helped after the 24-year-old’s management company TI Sports released a brief statement to the Korean media last week.

It read: “Because there is nothing certain, we cannot give any information about his plans at this point.”

Chung-Yong has just 12 months remaining on his contract and if the club succeed in holding on to him, extending that deal could well become an urgent matter in order to avoid a similar situation as the ones they faced with Johan Elmander and Gary Cahill in the last couple of seasons.

The player himself admits that relegation did come as a personal blow.

“I couldn’t imagine that we are going down to the Championship,” he said. “And I didn’t expect that when we started the season.

“But it has happened. It could be much better if we stayed in the Premier League, but I couldn't do anything because I was injured.

“I'm fully fit now, but I will keep training for next season.

“On our last day of the season the manager said we have many young, talented players and we can give a good performance in the Championship, so we can come back into the Premier League next season.”

A centre-half is top of the manager’s wanted list, although impending talks with Jussi Jaaskelainen could mean a goalkeeper also becomes a pressing priority.

A central midfielder to replace the outgoing Nigel Reo-Coker is also on the cards, as would another centre-half, if Zat Knight decides his future lies elsewhere.
