Wanderers expect to clarify the future of Jussi Jaaskelainen and Zat Knight early next week.

The club are waiting to hear from the pair after offering them 12-month deals for next season in the Championship.

Manager Owen Coyle is keen to see the situation resolved quickly, so he can move for replacements if necessary, but has already hinted that both players have indicated they would like to stay at the club.

Legendary Finn, Jaaskelainen, has been with Wanderers since 1997 and lives in the town with his family.

He has been offered an incentive-based contract but knows he could start the next campaign behind Adam Bogdan in the pecking order for a first-team place.

Knight’s future at the club looked numbered a few months ago, when he dropped behind David Wheater and Tim Ream in Coyle’s selection plans.

But a long-term injury to Wheater could convince Knight that enough first-team football will be on offer next term to sign a short-term deal.

Both players are said to be interesting Sam Allardyce, who is now back in the top flight with West Ham.

And it is understood that Gretar Steinsson – released by the Whites a fortnight ago – is also on the radar of the ex-Wanderers boss.
