WANDERERS have been snubbed by satellite TV schedulers with the news that just one of their Premier League games will be screened in the first four months of the season.

Broadcasters SKY and ESPN announced yesterday the first batch of 48 live matches to be shown before the end of November.

But the Whites have again been largely ignored, with their only live appearance pencilled in for November 22 when Sam Allardyce comes back to the Reebok with Blackburn Rovers.

Neighbours Wigan Athletic have also been granted just a single live game, a figure overshadowed by Chelsea and Manchester United, who will both appear nine times in league fixtures alone before November 29.

Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside expressed his displeasure at the television schedulers last season, claiming the lack of live exposure was damaging the club’s ability to attract sponsors.

Every Premier League club is guaranteed at least 10 game payments from the broadcasters, regardless of how many live appearances they make.

Last season they played in just six televised games, between SKY and the now defunct Setanta Sports, and Gartside argued that the disproportionate publicity could have financial implications.

“Although we are guaranteed 10 game payments, it is damaging our ability to attract sponsors who want to get the exposure from live television,” he wrote in his regular programme notes.

“There are several Premier League teams looking for shirt sponsors next year and the competition is intense in a diminishing market due to the financial crisis we are suffering at the moment.”

Wanderers have since signed a shirt sponsorship deal with 188BET - but the latest slight from the broadcasters is unlikely to go down well with the Whites hierarchy.

SKY will show 92 live top flight games in all, with a further 46 picked up by newcomers ESPN following the collapse of Setanta Sports.
