AFTER expecting to complete the double swoop of Sam Ricketts and Lee Chung-Yong, Gary Megson will now turn his attentions to finding a new striker.

With Kevin Davies, Johan Elmander and Ricardo Vaz Te the only recognised forwards left at the club following the departures of on-loan duo Ebi Smolarek and Ariza Makakula at the end of last season, the Wanderers manager is desperate to unearth a proven goalscorer.

While top scorer Davies’ enjoyed his best-ever Premier League return with 11 goals last term, Elmander suffered an indifferent start to his Reebok career after hitting the target just five times all season — and not at all in 2009 — following his club-record £8.2m move from Toulouse.

Forgotten man Vaz Te is still on his way back from knee surgery and youngster Temitope Obadeyi is raw and unproven, which leaves the Bolton boss going into the new campaign light on firepower.

Paul Robinson and Rickets have been brought in to bolster the back four, while Sean Davies and Lee will reinforce the midfield.

But Megson knows up front is the area that needs addressing next and, with the new season just three weeks away, he must do it sooner rather than later.
