A SMALL print and greeting card business in Bolton is celebrating its success following a spike in Christmas sales.

The Broad Lane Print was created by Callum Smyth, who along with Anna Palt, is currently a university student.

The day-to-day business is run from Callum's home in Astley Bridge, while Anna runs the social media pages.

Callum started the business in March last year, just as the first national lockdown began.

Seeking a head start ahead of his graduation from the Manchester School of Art and Design, Callum began creating and selling personalised maps - which was going "fairly well."

Once Anna, a fine art student, joined, the duo put their creative minds together to create greeting cards and saw their sales rocket from 15 to 100 during the Christmas period.

Callum said: "All the local support, and support from our friends has massively helped to reach our targets faster than we expected. We managed to hit 100 sales mid-December and after the release of our second collection of cards for Valentine’s day, we have already managed to get to 200 sales which was supposed to be our end of year target .

"A week later we’re closing in on 300 sales, so its been quite a whirlwind start to the year for us."

"We have been completely overwhelmed by the help we have been given through sharing our designs in the local Facebook groups. We’ve had a lot of old friends, friends of friends, friends of family just sharing our work the moment they see it and the outcome has really been amazing."

The duo's cards are often comedic and feature a pun or two, as they attempt to make them "unique, humorous and relatable."

The cards are sold via Etsy, a popular online marketplace, where people can sell their own unique items.

The Broad Lane Print has already gone international - with Callum and Anna sending orders to Ireland, The Netherlands, France and the USA.

Callum added that they hope to expand as much as possible this year, in order to be able to do it as a full-time job.

He said: "A huge amount of customers that have messaged us asking if we have our own shop so they can come and browse, but it is something we can’t imagine right now.

"But the thought of having our own space dedicated to the Broad Lane Print is the end goal for us both."To visit their online store, click here.
