HOLIDAY season is almost upon us which means swapping Bolton for the beach for many.

And a beauty salon manager says de-fuzzing and adding a splash of colour to fingers and toes are top of the list of pampering priorities for most women in the town.

Shabana Jusab, aged 32, who has been at Synerje, Chorley Old Road, for 11 years, says Shellac — a manicure treatment which promises smudge-proof nail colour that lasts for about two weeks without chipping — and waxing are the most popular treatments for summer.

The salon has several packages to get people ready for their holiday, including a nails, spray tan and make-up combo which recently proved popular with teenage girls attending school leavers proms.

And it is not just women and girls who are partial to a treatment or two as Shabana says waxing is popular with men, no doubt influenced by the preened TV stars of the day from the likes of The Only Way is Essex and Geordie Shore.

Shabana, who has a four-month-old baby, said: “A lot of men are into their back, stomach and chest. And eyebrows.

“It is amazing how programmes like that can actually influence people.”

Speaking of her own pre-holiday routine, she said: “Being waxed, having my fingers and toes done and my eyebrows shaped are the most important for me.”

SHABANA ON SHELLAC

Shellac is a brand of half nail polish, half gel which is cured by UV light, with nails completely dry by the time the manicure is over.
Shabana said: "People going away have a French manicure on their fingers and a colour on their toes.
"Then 50 per cent like having it matching, fingers and toes.
"Back in the day when we just had normal polish, they would tend to smudge.
"With the Shellac, because it doesn't smudge, people tend to have more colours.
“Nails, people tend to have them done every two to three weeks.
“On toes, it can last between six and eight weeks because your toenails don’t grow as fast.”

SHABANA ON WAXING

Summer holiday packages at Synerje include a range of waxing options, from half leg to bikini.
Shabana, who is known as the Waxing Queen, said: "We normally say hairs need to be at least a centimetre long, that's a minimum before we can wax.
"Sometimes, if they are a tiny bit shorter, they can come out but other times, it's very difficult.
"What people tend to do, when it comes to winter time, that's when they tend to grow them.
"They get into a cycle and have them done every four or five weeks.
"Everybody is different but it's normally about three weeks before you will see any growth.
"Everyone has a different pain threshold. I'm not going to say it doesn't hurt but everybody is different.
“I would say people should try it themselves rather than listen to others.
“At some places, a Hollywood wax can take 45 minutes but I can do it in 10.”
