A CAR ploughed into an Indian bakery and takeaway on Blackburn Road completely destroying the doorway.

The BMW crashed into the front of Shahi Sweets and Bakers, situated on the street corner.

Fortunately no one was seriously injured in the incident however the impact of the collision did knock staff onto the floor.

The crash happened at around 6.25pm on Thursday evening, at the time three members of staff were inside along with two customers and the owner of the business.

It is reported that the car collided with the shop as it was swerving to avoid another vehicle on the road.

The owner of Shahi Sweets and Bakers, who prefers not to be named, said: "It was very scary. The car just drove into the shop but luckily nobody was badly injured. It was a BMW.

"It went straight inside the shop and the force was so great the engine fell down into the floor.

"The impact was so big there was a really loud noise.

"At the time there three staff members there and two customers, and myself.

"The impact was so great when it smashed into the counter it knocked us onto the floor.

"There’s damage to the exterior of the building and most of the displays inside have been damaged.

"It looked like it had swerved out of the way to avoid another car in the road and had crashed into the shop."

The shop opened up last year and had seen a flurry of orders in the run up to Christmas.

It will now remain closed for the foreseeable future.

The owner said: "The council have come and boarded up the shop to keep the site safe.

"It’s been a really busy time before Christmas and people have been placing lots of orders so it’s frustrating having to be closed.

"We had to turn orders down last minute which is not ideal.

"There’s a long way to go with getting the shop fixed.

"We will be closed until further notice.

"Police, ambulance and fire brigade were all here after it happened."

It is reported that the driver remained at the scene and spoke with police.

Greater Manchester Police, North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have all been contacted for more information.
