A salon owner who has won a major award was inspired by her grandma to become a hair stylist.

Angela Travers owns The Girls at 64 in Little Lever, a hair salon situated on Market Street.

After winning Hair Salon of the Year in Greater Manchester Area at the Hair and Beauty Awards, Angela is thanking her own 83-year-old ‘nana Pat’ Patricia Quinlan, who owned her own salon many years ago.

She said: “I have always wanted to be a hair stylist when I was younger because my nan was one and I used to go with her when she would do ladies shampoo and cuts.

The Bolton News:

My nana Pat is the queen of the family and I’ve always wanted to follow in her footsteps especially because she had her own salon.

“She is my queen, and everyone loves her in the family.”

Angela first opened the salon four-and-half-years ago and has worked as a hair stylist for 26 years.

She said: “When we opened my salon, nana Pat arrived and when she did, we played a queen’s fanfare playing in the background and we have her scissors to cut the ribbon and officially open the salon.

“She gets her hair done at the salon every week, she’s a glam granny.”

‘Nana Pat’ was said to make people laugh every time she worked at her own salon and is now a firm fan of Angela and her salon, making tea for the girls whenever she is in getting her hair coloured.

The Bolton News:

Angela said: “I am absolutely overwhelmed by it and proud of myself and the team.

“I was unexpected to even be nominated and it’s a nice feeling.

“I am hoping it will help boost the business and even our clients have been very happy and proud for us.

“We do hope that we provide a warm environment for people to come in even for a coffee and a friendly chat.

“We like to make people laugh and feel good and they will say that we do that.”
