Residents in Deane have been left feeling frustrated over mounds of fly-tipping which has been stuck in a backstreet for, they say, more than three weeks.

Fly-tipping has been dumped at the back of Hulton Lane between the junctions of Kirkebrok Road and Patterson Street, causing a concern for residents who have stated it is causing a smell and a potential  increase in rats.

The fly-tipping includes piles of household waste, a broken sofa, dead rats, rotten food and more – and now residents are appealing for CCTV to catch the culprits who are dumping the waste.

Peter Haslam is one of the concerned residents who would like the fly-tipping to be tackled.

He said: “The fly tip was reported to the council by numerous residents over three weeks ago along with the addresses from where they came from, no enforcement officer has been round.

Fly-tipping on this scale was a regular occurrence here over two years ago we've not seen it this bad in that time but for some reason it's started again.

“There's rotten food in the bags and the flies are everywhere, there's also a dead rat amongst the bags. And the stench is awful as you walk past it.

“Residents feel just like me they're all sick of it most of them are old so can't report it online and using the telephone takes too long for them as most if the times they can't get through to complain.

“A few people around here do litter picking to keep the area tidy, but CCTV is needed in these back streets in this area or some sort of gated entrance to put a stop to the fly-tippers.”

Another resident, who said they would like to remain anonymous said they had seen rats in the area.

They said: “It is awful around here, the fly-tipping has become so bad, and it is attracting rats.”

A spokesperson for Bolton Council said: “We inspect and remove fly tips on council owned land as part of the scheduled street cleaning programme and in response to reports from residents.

Residents are therefore encouraged to continue reporting incidents of fly tipping on council land via the website.”
