A popular pub has two new faces behind the bar after the previous landlords moved on.

Kerry Greenhalgh and her partner Andy Wilding took over the Spread Eagle pub in June after the one Kerry worked at went up for sale.

Kerry has been in the industry for almost 25 years, and is keen to turn the pub back into a community venue for Bromley Cross.

The couple moved from Tameside with their two children Junior Greenhalgh and Ronan Wilding and thought the area would be a good place to bring them up.

The Bolton News:

She said: “We are just trying to get it back to a family pub where you would take your children for something to eat for the football on a Saturday.

“We are feeling positive. There have been a lot of changes and we have seen a lot of new faces who have come back and regulars.

“We have been getting a lot of positive feedback.

“We needed somewhere to call home.”

Kerry says that she is up for the challenge of changing the atmosphere and has already made a number of adjustments.

She said: “In the last six weeks since we have been here, we have doubled the money at the pub.

The Bolton News:

“We have started a cheese and wine night and got games in for the children, including Jenga, Connect 4, chess, lunch cabaret for the elderly and lots of others.

“We want it to be somewhere that people can go in the evenings for a drink. It gets people out who are by themselves. We have a lot of senior people on their own.”

The landlords have also had a piano installed, as well as introducing more live music and entertainment.

Kerry added: “We have already noticed a difference in the atmosphere, and it just shows how easy it is to make changes.”

This historic pub has stood on the site on Hough Lane for more than 100 years.

Before former owners Matt Bury and Paul Robinson took over last year, George Campbell ran the pub for almost three years and during lockdown he provided a fruit and vegetable market, as well as being the base for the Bromley Cross Supper Group which co-ordinated Christmas and Easter gifts for the elderly residents and gifts during VE Day celebrations.
