Retirement is just the tonic for Bolton pharmacy assistant Wendy Nightingale who has dispensed vital advice to customers for the past 25 years.

Wendy has been a familiar face at  Pharmavon, the pharmacy based at Avondale Medical Centre in Halliwell, for a quarter of a century.

During her careers she had a number of roles,  including helping to get patients ready for flu vaccinations, making deliveries and assembling medication and getting it ready, liaising with other healthcare teams including nurses and doctors and she also provided patient care.

The team at Pharmavon said she will be truly missed but she deserves to have a rest.

Mohamed Patel, Pharmavon manager, said: “We wish Wendy a very happy retirement and thank her for her dedicated service to patients, she will be missed.”

A spokesperson for Pharmavon said: “Wendy deserves a well-earned rest; she has been absolutely fantastic to work with.

“All of the patients know her, whatever is going on in the pharmacy Wendy works well with people and also, she is a good laugh and I think that is so important in a team.

“It is a hard role working in a pharmacy with all the services that we do, and she has seen all the changes that we have had over the past 25 years.

“We didn’t use to have electronic prescriptions and now we do, and other things have also changed over the years and Wendy is just a nice, kind person.

“We are very sad that Wendy is leaving but she definitely deserves a rest.

“I don’t know specifically what Wendy will do when she retires but what I will say is I am sure she will find some way to make it as busy as working in healthcare can be.

“I know she likes travelling and things like that so I’m sure that will be part of her retirement plans.

“So many people know Wendy and she has gone out of her way for patients over the years taking deliveries at short notice and people don’t always know how much the teams in pharmacies do to be honest.

“Everyone is going to miss her; she has been a big part of the pharmacy.”
