Police are again using extra powers to order people out of Bolton town centre if they are found committing anti-social behaviour.

This is the fourth time officers have implemented a dispersal order in the heart of Bolton.

A spokesman for GMP Bolton South said: "Insp Maddocks of Bolton South Neighbourhood Policing Team has authorised a dispersal order in Bolton Town Centre.

"The power comes from Section 34 of the ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR, CRIME AND POLICING ACT 2014. "This order will run from 14:00 9th March 2024 - 07:00 10th March 2024.

"This order gives officers in uniform additional powers to direct anyone to leave the below mapped area if they have caused or are likely to cause ASB.

"This order has been put in place in order to allow people travelling to Bolton Town Centre to enjoy their visit.

"Please engage with our officers when you see them."

On Friday, Insp Kieron Maddocks said: " "Following an increase in anti-social behaviour incidents in Bolton Town centre, I have authorised dispersal orders this week.

"Anyone dispersed under this power will be referred to partner agencies and further preventative work will take place."

Although officers have not detailed any specific incidents, a high profile police presence was first seen in Bolton town centre on Wednesday.

And earlier this week police reported that Bolton's Town Centre Neighbourhood Team & Shoplifting Team arrested four people.

They have since been charged with 20 offences, including shoplifting, theft from a person, and racially aggravated public order.
