DRAMATIC video footage has emerged after two men were caught on CCTV pouring petrol over a car before setting it alight.

The shocking images were captured by the owner of the Egerton Street Tyres garage in Egerton Street, Farnworth, in a bid to help catch the attackers.

The footage shows the two men, who struck at about 3.30am on Monday morning, pouring several bottles of liquid, believed to be petrol, onto the vehicle and surrounding area.

One of the men then appears to light the liquid and the two thugs run away as flames engulf the area.

The arson attack destroyed the Volkswagen Golf car as well as causing severe damage to the Egerton Street Tyres premises.

The owner of the business, who asked not to be named, said he is willing to offer a reward of £1,000 for anyone with information that leads to the conviction of the arsonists.

He said: "The footage from our cameras shows that this is clearly a malicious, targeted attack — they have done this on purpose.

"You can make out their faces on the footage so I am hopeful that they will be caught.

"The fire has spread so that smoke was coming into the building and has caused a lot of electrical damage.

"This incident will cost me thousands of pounds so they must be caught."

The car in question belonged to a customer of Egerton Tyres and was parked close to the garage building.

The garage owner said he had no idea why someone would want to target his business in such an attack.

A copy of the CCTV footage has now been passed to Greater Manchester Police who are investigating the incident.

A spokesman for the force said: “We would urge anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the police by calling 101.”

The fire is the second suspected arson attack at a Farnworth garage this month.

Police are also investigating the cause of a blaze at Auto Tyres in nearby Emlyn Street, where up to 100 tyres caught fire on February 2.
