Palace spin operation has begun in earnest

I see that the spin operation has now begun in earnest ('Bid winner: Palace casino 'not definite''. February 10).

Mr Firoz Kassam, the owner of the company set to lease Alexandra Palace, is quoted as saying that a casino is not certain, and even if planning permission is granted, it would only be a 'small' one.

This is surely a case of getting your feet under the table first, before sliding one's rear onto the seat. How small will his casino be? A couple of fruit machines and a tombola perhaps? Clearly, Mr Kassam and his business partners expect to make money out of this venture, and so I think that we can expect something a little more substantial.

And then there's the planning permission.

I wonder if his friends on Haringey Council will turn down the subsequent planning application for a gaming licence?

As far as I can tell, the Labour, Liberal Democrat and Conservative parties, locally, all approve of this plan.

We hear a lot about choice from politicians these days.

The only place that we are not offered a choice it seems, is at the ballot box.
